If the activation method is "admin" the user will receive a final email advising the account is awaiting activation. The site admin can either click the link of the email they receive or go into the back end Users > Manage, select the user in the table, and click Action > Activate from the drop-menu at the top of that page.
Is that what you're after? The only 'status' you can see is if the user is active/enabled. If they are not active, they are not validated.
