Thank you for the suggestions.

I was at least partially successful by trying options in the module setup. At least I got the dropdown menu off the parent page (level 1) where it was most distracting. FYI, the template was Purity III.

I've been thinking for some time about getting YouTheme Pro. I think I'll go ahead and try that out since it looks like it has a lot more structure behind it.
