Hello everyone, so I run a rather large Joomla (3.10.12) website that currently has about 1500 user generated articles. I have been using the Form2Content extension for years which has worked wonderfully; Registered Users create an article using a simple form (mostly just Title, Tags and File Upload) and an article is created from a Smarty Template layout.
Unfortunately Form2Content is shutting down and will not be available for J4 and beyond so I will need to find another way to do this if I am going to continue using Joomla. I have researched various different extensions but instead of possibly having to deal with a similar problem down the road is there any way to recreate this functionality in J5 without using any extensions?
For example, would it be possible (and advised) to use Custom Fields in the Front-End article creation and an article Template Override to create the same result? I have experimented with this a bit but it seems as if J5 is not equipped for this functionality. For example, custom fields are available in the Front-End article creation but some issues seem to be present; users are unable to select child Categories in article creation even though they can change to those categories after the article is created.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!
